Vertical or Horizontal Video for Your Listing
I usually recommend vertical video when a Realtor plans to promote a listing on social media. Horizontal video has a different role: a slower, longer presentation that suits YouTube and a listing’s video link.
The useful starting point is where you will share the finished video.
Why most of my clients choose vertical
In my current work, I estimate roughly 90% of the videos I sell are vertical. That reflects my own clients, who are mainly sharing them on social media.
I like to make these videos quick and simple. The aim is to give someone a useful introduction to the property in a format they can watch on their phone.
If social promotion is your main plan, vertical is the format I would start with. Choose the home’s strongest features and give viewers a reason to explore the full listing.
Where horizontal video fits
For horizontal videos, I slow the pace down and make the presentation a little longer and more cinematic. The format gives the property a different feel and works well for a fuller viewing experience on YouTube.
It can also serve the listing presentation, using the video link accepted by your listing system. Confirm the appropriate branded or unbranded version with your brokerage before uploading.
When to discuss both
If your campaign includes social posts and a longer property presentation, both formats may have a purpose. Decide how you will use each before ordering. Having another export is useful when it has somewhere to go.
My preference for vertical comes from how my clients use their videos and the style of content I enjoy creating for them.
